UPDATE ON FRED WRIGHT
Hi everyone,
Here is the latest update on Fred Wright as of 4pm Toronto time on Tuesday Dec. 29th:
Fred is aware that he's had a stroke and that he has a blood clot in his brain.
He is generally very lucid and aware of what's going on but there are times when
he is disoriented about where he is. Sharon said that he woke up this morning with
ideas for their second book together.
Fred's son Nathan has flown in from Japan and Fred’s brother from California.
John Arnott, Steve and Sandra Long, and Dan were in to see Fred yesterday.
He recognized us all and was able to talk accurately about the Denver Broncos,
his favorite football team and their history. (This of course was a painful moment for
him as it would be for all Bronco fans, but he got through it).
His motor skills are improving but there remains a general minimal weakness on the left side.
He walked down the hospital corridor today with assistants on each side to catch him if he
stumbled but he didn't need them. This of course is a very positive sign.
The doctors are still looking for and consulting about the source of the clot.
Tomorrow he has consultation planned with both a physical as well as occupational therapist.
At this point they plan to keep him in the hospital until the end of the week and then release
him to a rehabilitation centre. The average stay in a rehabilitation centre is 4 weeks.
Stairs and getting around his own home is a concern now.
All in all there is slow, steady improvement and Sharon and the family seem to be encouraged.
Sharon seems to be very peaceful, and handling the circumstances. She is encouraged and surrounded
by her family. They send their love and thanks to all for all the prayers. We have seen the progress
for Fred since the prayers started late Saturday night.
Thanks for your prayers and concerns. We will send out updates as more information becomes clear.
Blessings,
Dan and Gwen Slade
