Do you have young potential leaders that need some sound theological training but would you prefer not to send them off somewhere else but walk with them through the journey of study and growth?
Or are you yourself looking for some more training in theology, with practical experience and the knowledge that you will be developed personally, grow in integrity, get more healed up, be taught leadership skills, and challenged?
Why the Bath Leadership Academy?
Stewart Keiller writes… 'investing in the next generation of leaders for the church must be one of our highest leadership priorities. We need on fire leaders with a passion for the nations."
It was with this in mind that Bath City Church set up the Bath Leadership Academy two years ago in order to begin training leaders.
What is available?
The Bath Leadership Academy runs two different strands: 1) a three year full-time ‘Bachelors of Theology in Missions’ (BTh in Mission) degree program which is ‘delivered’ by Springdale College and validated by Middlesex University; and 2) the Leadership Diploma.
Where do the students come from?
They can come from churches anywhere in Europe or the UK. Currently the BTh course has three students that have come from Partners in Harvest churches (one from Germany, two from the UK), one from an Anglican church (in Bath) and the rest already at Bath City Church. Of these, three students do their placements at their home churches (two PIH churches, one Anglican) and the rest at Bath City Church and its satellites.
What current students say?
“The BTh has been a life changing experience. God has taught me so much about who I am and what He has called me to do. The course has helped shape me into a leader practically through my placement with support and coaching from great leaders.” – (Ryan Dunn, 2nd year student)
“Since starting the BLA I have began this transformation in my life from relying on past experiences that I have had all throughout my life to being able to see them all throughout the Bible and all throughout the history of the world so far. Something that has really taken hold in my life is a quote I read in a book for the course, ‘words without deeds is pointless but at the same time deeds without words are just as pointless’. If I am wanting to be a pastor I have to be able to join both experience and scripture in a way that isn’t doing a disfavour to either. – (Chris Long, 1st year student)
“Being part of the BTh course has given me a place to grow spiritually in my personal walk with God whilst also challenging me intellectually. Having the opportunity to work in a ministry setting enables the teaching to be put into practice and provides a place to be mentored by those already working in ministry.” – (Michelle Addai, 2nd year student)
What does the course include:
The BTh program has academic theology training (with assignments), with hands-on placement experience (18 hrs a week), group work and individual coaching sessions. Subjects covered are Introduction to Theology, Christology, Pauline Literature, God and Suffering, Pastoral Care, Preaching, etc. Also included are three to four day Equipping Schools (usually one per term) on topics such as Healing Life’s Hurts, the Father Heart of God, Growing in the Prophetic, etc. Any other training that Bath City Church runs is available for students to attend free.
Students taking the BTh are either based at Bath City Church, or live at home and travel to Bath for two days teaching and then return to complete their placement at their home church. The program is half the price of a conventional degree and student loans are available for UK citizenship students.
The Bath Leadership Academy also runs a Leadership training part-time course on which the BTh students are enrolled automatically. The goal of this part-time course is to train people into leadership and covers modules such as Identity, Calling, Spiritual Disciplines, Church, Mission, etc. This course focuses on growing in personal maturity, integrity, and helping students identify their leadership style, understand themselves, how they communicate (using the 7 Life Languages), as well as some theology training.
