Robert and Kathie Fetveit are the Executive Directors of Elijah House.
Many years ago, while working as missionaries in Japan, Kathie and I began to question why our ministry and the ministries of many others more anointed and qualified than us, were not more fruitful. There were few converts, and within a short time many often fell away. God said, “There is too much competition and jealousy!” I (Robert) questioned Him about the roots of our divisiveness and strife. I felt the Lord speaking to my heart that insufficient healing of unresolved root issues produces bitter fruits. Serving on the mission field tends to expose these, which usually show up as conflicts in family and team relationship!
Within a few months, we returned to the United States to seek heart-healing and “spiritual parents” who could help us. But the burden in my heart for the lost was greater than ever. John 17:20-21 became my life verse:
I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
Unity among believers has always been God’s heart for the church. It seems that people often hear a call to unity from a multitude of leaders, but are not given a strategy to make it happen. Most of the doctrinal and personal issues causing division in the Body of Christ are directly related to the need for healing of the heart. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart (Luke 6:45, NAS). For as he thinks within himself, so he is… (Proverbs 23:7a NAS).
The first time we heard John and Paula Sandford (founders of Elijah House Ministries) teach, we knew we had found our spiritual parents and the strategies needed for healing and unity! We immersed ourselves in the study of principles for healing the heart, and applied them to our marriage and family.
As we continued in our studies we learned that Elijah House is first and foremost a prophetic ministry which speaks new life into the heart of the church. At Elijah House we often state that our goal is to “evangelize the unbelieving areas of the believer’s heart,” but our ultimate goal is to heal the church by helping individuals and families find and fulfill God’s original design and destiny, and through that, to promote unity in the body of Christ. Any unhealed wound, judgment, lie, or inner vow in the heart, signifies that in a particular area, the heart cannot receive God’s promises and the Truth of His Word, and therefore keep us from living out Truth in relationships.
Ephesians 4 exhorts us to not to continue acting like children. We respond like children when bitter roots from childhood are triggered. One of the main roles of the church—though often neglected—is to “re-parent.” God is raising up mothers and fathers in Christ for the purpose of healing the church. What often drives us into their arms is relationship with people who aggravate us, revealing our bitter roots. Wise mentors hold us accountable while loving us unconditionally and helping us to see who God created us to be.
Hebrews 12:15 tells us to look carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.
My personal vision statement can be summed in The H. U. G. Principal:
Unity [which promotes/produces]
Global Evangelism (when we add the E for Evangelism to HUG, it becomes HUGE!)
When individuals are healed, love will bloom like a flower, and good fruit like forgiveness, acceptance, peace and unity will be evident in their family and community. As the world witnesses this heavenly phenomenon, they will indeed see Jesus! Evangelism will explode! Healing is not only intended for the individual, but necessary for the whole Body of Christ, so that HE can reach a lost world.
God is passionate about many things, but His Word reveals that there are four major passions closest to His Heart:
- He has a love for the lost and a desire to see them come to saving faith.
- He has a passion for Israel, because they are his chosen people.
- He loves His church. He wants to see her come into healing, prosperity and radiant beauty as the Bride for His Beloved Son.
- He is passionate about a personal, intimate relationship with each one of His children.
A healed church is the HOPE OF THE WORLD!
Recently, an Elijah House Leader in Australia, sent us a message he found posted on a believer’s web-media page.
A huge shout out to David Tensen for pouring into our men-folk here at New Earth Tribe. David shared a brilliant message last night. Also a huge “thank you” to Elijah House Ministries paving the way for the church to get healed deep inside our hearts. This will be so normal in the years and decades to come that the church without heart-healing will be considered to be living in the Dark Ages! Normal Christianity is transformed from one freedom to the next every single day. Maria Mason (Phil and Maria Mason, Pastors, New Earth Tribe, a spiritual community at Byron Bay, Australia)
How do we address and promote the need for transformation and sanctification throughout the Body of Christ? He desires to reveal His love to and promote those who are willing to be OPEN, HONEST and BROKEN before HIM. Will you join us in praying for the HUG principle to become reality, so that the world may know that the Father has sent the SON?
We at Elijah House have been so blessed in the last few years to be a part of Partners in Harvest. Upon our first visit to Toronto in the fall of 2011, we felt right at home. We could sense the same spiritual DNA in the leaders and participants in PIH. We are so grateful to Dan and John for letting us share our hearts through the PIH newsletter. At the last “Catch the Fire” in October we were given a chance to testify before Heidi Baker spoke on the last night of the conference. The video is below.
Elijah House is committed to assist PIH in our mutual goal to reach the whole earth with the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ!
